Pocket Opera Unveils Online Programming

By David Salazar

Pocket Opera has released several mini-concerts online.

Since the pandemic shut down opera companies across the globe, the company has endeavored to continue bringing opera via digital means.

The company, which continued to pay partial fees to every singer, director, costumer, and prop artist involved in the 2019-20 season, launched a 3-song Mini Concert Series, culminating in the concert by Chelsea Hollow.

From there, the organization planned four socially distanced mini-concerts at the Hillside Club in Berkeley.

Additionally, the company has also launched a campaign via its Facebook page in which it highlights a Black opera singer from opera’s history on a daily basis. Among those highlighted are Sissierietta Jones, Shirley Verrett, Jules Bledsoe, and John Holiday.

Below you can check out two performances from the company’s series to date.
