Pocket Opera Announces 2023 Season

San Francisco Opera’s Pocket Opera has announced its 2023 season.

All four fully-staged productions will be sung in English and produced on a small, audience-friendly scale.

First up is Johann Strauss’s “Die Fledermaus” featuring Cheryl Cain in her Pocket Opera debut as Rosalinde. Patrick Hagen will sing the role of Eisenstein, and Leandra Ramm as Prince Orlofsky. Adele is sung by Melissa Sondhi and Alfred by Kevin Gino. Paul Dab conducts with serving as Madeline Abel-Kerns as stage director.

Performance Dates: March 19, 26 & April 2, 2023

“Albert Herring” is Pocket Opera’s first Benjamin Britten production. Sam Faustine takes on the title role. Caroline Altman and Kathleen Moss Miller are among the cast. Nicolas A. Garcia directs, and David Drummond returns as Music Director.

Performance Dates: April 23, 30 & May 7, 2023

Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld” returns to the Pocket Opera stage with Amy Foote, Nathanael Fleming, and Andrew Metzger. Bethanie Baeyen directs and Frank Johnson conducts.

Performance Dates: June 11, 18, & 25, 2023

Last but not least is Puccini’s “Tosca.” Michelle Drever leads the cast as the title character. Alex Boyer, the 2023 Hurst Artist and Spencer Dodd perform the roles of Cavaradossi and Baron Scarpia, respectively. Mary Chun serves as Music Director and Elly Lichenstein directs. “Tosca” is a co-production with Cinnabar Theatre.
