Opera star Plácido Domingo has joined forced with famed athletes Pau Gasol and Rafa Nadala in collecting funds for the Red Cross.

Domingo made the announcement via his social media accounts encouraging people to support the cause and the medical professionals it helps.

“I admire and thank all of the medical teams in the world who bravely expose themselves and fight every day to save lives,” says a message on Domingo’s official Facebook page. “I am not an athlete but I am a fervent fan and I want to thank the Spanish sport for all the joys and satisfactions it has given me throughout my life. I wanted to join the initiative that those two great athletes and friends, Pau and Rafa have started and like so many others after them, to support the Spanish Red Cross through the #CruzRojaResponde project.

“I have already contributed myself. Try to collaborate also by sending a contribution now to ES44 0049 0001 5321 1002 2225. Thank you very much! ‘Stay at home,’” the message concludes.

Domingo was recently diagnosed with COVID-19 and was hospitalized for a few days before recovering and being discharged.
