Plácido Domingo, Ailyn Pérez & Iréne Theroin Highlight Palau De les Arts’ 2019-20 Season

The Palau de les Arts has announced a varied 2019-20 season featuring operas, zarzuelas, concerts, and recitals. Here is a look.

Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” is set to be conducted by Christopher Moulds in a production by Emilio Sagi. The cast will be headed by Andrzej Filończyk, María José Moreno, Sabina Puértolas, Robert Gleadow, Cecilia Molinari, Susana Cordón, and Valeriano Lanchas.

Performance Dates: Sept. 27-Oct. 6, 2019

Mozart’s “La Finta Giardiniera” will get a semi-staged production by S. Daneman and P. Agnew. William Christie conducts the production with Mariasole Mainini, Lauren Lodge-Campbell, Deborah Cachet, Théo Imart, Moritz Kallenberg, Rory Carver, and Sreten Manojlović.

Performance Date: Nov. 10, 2019

The Cantantes del Centre Plácido Domingo star in Poulenc “Les Mamelles de Tirésias” with pianists Roger Vignoles and Jorge Giménez.

Performance Dates: Nov. 16-24, 2019

Plácido Domingo and Amartuvshin Enkhbat star in the title role of Verdi’s “Nabucco.” They are joined by Anna Pirozzi, Riccardo Zanellato, Arturo Chacón-Cruz, and Alisa Kolosova. Jordi Bernàcer conducts Thaddeus Strassberger’s production.

Performance Dates: Nov. 2-16, 2019

Iréne Theorin stars in Strauss’ “Elektra” alongside Doris Soffel, Sara Jakubiak, Štefan Margita, and Derek Welton. Marc Albrecht conducts Robert Carsen’s production.

Performance Dates: Jan. 18-30, 2020

Mariangela Sicilia, Marina Viotti, Albina Shagimuratova, Ruth Iniesta, Ruzil Gatin, Sergey Romanovsky, Adrian Sâmpetrean, Misha Kiria, and Fabio CapitanucciIl headline the ensemble of Rossini’s “Il  Viaggio a Reims.” Francesco Lanzillotta conducts Damiano Michieletto’s acclaimed production.

Performance Dates: Feb. 29-March 14, 2020

Andrea Marcon conducts Handel’s “Ariodante” with a cast that includes Andrea Mastroni, David Hansen, Jane Archibald, Juan Sancho, Christophe Dumaux, and Francesca Aspromonte. Richard Jones directs the production.

Performance Dates: April 30-May 10, 2020

Vicente Martín i Soler’s “Il tutore burlato” is set to be directed by Jaume Policarpo. Cristóbal Soler conducts the Cantantes del Centre Plácido Domingo.

John Osborn, Ailyn Pérez, Alex Esposito, and Paula Murrihy lead Gounod’s “Faust” with Keith Warner directing the production.

Mario Gas directs  Sorozábal’s “La Tabernera del Puerto” with Guillermo García-Calvo conducting. The cast is headed by  Marina Monzó, Àngel Ódena, Antonio Gandía
Rubén Amoretti, Ruth González, Vicki Peña, Pep Molina, Ángel Ruiz, and Abel García

Performance Dates: Oct. 27-Nov. 3, 2019

Recitals 

Piotr Beczała presents a program with works by Leoncavallo, Dvořák, Karlowicz, Rimski-Kórsakov, Rajmáninov, Verdi, De Curtis, Tosti, Bixio, Massenet, and Bizet. Pianist Sarah Tysman joins the tenor.

Violeta Urmana and Helmut Deutsch perform works by Schubert and Strauss.

Philippe Jaroussky sings Schubert with pianist Jerôme Ducros.

Simon Keenlyside sings Schubert, Strauss Fauré, and Wolf alongside Caroline Dowdle.

Ainhoa Arteta and Malcolm Martineau perform a recital with works by Liszt, Strauss, Toldrà, Montsalvatge, Mompou, Guridi, Canteloube, and Garbizu.

Stars 

Joyce DiDonato and the Orquesta Il Pomo d’Oro, under Maxim Emelyanychev, perform a concert of works by Monteverdi, Gluck, Händel, and Purcell.

James Gaffigan conducts Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem with Elena Tsallagova and Eric Owens. The Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana accompanies.

Michele Mariotti conducts the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana in Mozart’s Symphony No. 35, Faure’s Pavonne, and Poulenc’s “Gloria.”
