Pittsburgh Opera to Require Full COVID Vaccination for Guests Through November

By David Salazar

Pittsburgh Opera has announced that it will require COVID vaccinations for audiences at all indoor performances and events through Nov. 30, 2021.

Among the events affected by this new rule will be the “Rising Stars Concert” on Oct. 3, the “Brown Bag Resident Artist Program” on Oct. 16, the “Magic & Spirits Halloween Party” on Oct. 30, “The Magic Flute” production on Nov. 6-14, 2021, and the “Brown Bag Resident Artist Concert” on Nov. 13, 2021.

“Safety continues to be our number one priority,” said Pittsburgh Opera General Director Christopher Hahn in an official press statement. “Knowing their fellow audience members are vaccinated helps patrons better enjoy our performances. For our younger audience members who aren’t yet eligible for a vaccine, we hope their parents consider a negative test a worthwhile investment to enable them to experience our beautiful art, especially the family favorite The Magic Flute.”

All guests will be required to show proof of full vaccination. There will be exceptions made for children under the age of 12 and people with a medical condition or “closely held religious belief that prevents vaccination.” Guests under these exceptions will need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance start time, or a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 24 hours of the performance start time. Masks must also be worn throughout any performance or event.
