The Royal Opera House Muscat has announced its 2024-25 season.

Opera

The season will open with Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” featuring The National Centre for Performing Arts Beijing. The cast will include Elena Stikhina, Piotr Bezcala, Liao Chaoyong, and Agnieszka Rehlis, and will be directed by Hugo de Ana.

Giampaolo Bisanti conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3 & 5, 2024

The second opera of the season will be Donizetti’s “La Fille du Regiment” featuring a staging by Jean-Louis Grinda in an Opera Monte Carlo production. Jessica Pratt, Antonio Siragusa, Veronica Simeoni, and Omar Montanari star, while Antonello Allemandi conducts the Arcangelo Corelli Orchestra and Opera Monte Carlo Chorus.

Performance Dates: Dec. 5 & 7, 2024

The Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and Chorus will perform Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra.” Valery Gergiev conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 23 & 25, 2025

Michele Dall’Ongaro’s family opera “Robin Hood” will be performed by the Petruzzelli Theatre Foundation of Bari and conducted by Pietro Maniti.

Performance Dates: April 18 & 19, 2025

The final opera of the season will be Verdi’s “La Traviata” in a production by Marta Domingo. Plácido Domingo conducts the orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova with a cast that includes Yusif Eyvazov and Juliana Grigoryan.

Concerts

The first concert of the season will be “A Musical Night from China” featuring Soloists and the Choir of NCPA Beijing, including baritone Liao Changyong accompanied by Orchestra Teatro Lirico di Cagliari and conducted by Lü Jia.

Performance Date: Oct. 4, 2024

Soprano Joyce El Khoury will perform alongside pianist Serouj Kradjian and a Lebanese ensemble for a concert titled “Scheherazade.”

Performance Date: Oct. 21, 2024

Erwin Schrott leads a program entitled “A Romantic Evening of Music” with the St Petersburg Northern Symphonia Orchestra of the F.I. Chaliapin St Petersburg State Music Theatre conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo.

Performance Date: Dec. 31, 2024

The Mariinsky Theatre will also present “Opera Masterpieces.”

Performance Date: Jan. 24, 2025

Ambassador of Song Thomas Hampson will present a concert accompanied by the Muscat Philharmonic Orchestra and Omani Opera Choir Group, conducted by Lubnan Balbaaki

Performance Date: Feb. 9, 2025

The final classical Gala Symphony Concert will showcase Plácido Domingo conducting the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra.

Performance Date: May 2, 2025

Educational Program

Several masterclasses with leading artists including Ambassador of Song Thomas Hampson, renowned conductor Fabio Mastrangelo, soprano Joyce El Khoury, world-class musicians Simon Zhu and Gile Bae, and organist Claudio Astronio will also be offered to music students based in Oman.
