
Piotr Beczała Cancels Performances in Arena di Verona & Bayreuth Festival

The tenor took to social media and said, “Unfortunately, I’ve been hit by a summer flu since yesterday, and I’ve been struggling with it. It’s forcing me to cancel the final performance of ‘Lohengrin’ in Bayreuth tomorrow as well as ‘Carmen’ in Verona. I will now take the time to fully recover and I’m already looking forward to seeing you again in Salzburg at Andrea Chénier!”
In an official statement, the Bayreuth Festival added, “Piotr Beczała has unfortunately had to cancel his participation in tomorrow’s performance of Lohengrin on August 9, 2025, due to illness. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Klaus Florian Vogt for stepping in at short notice to take on the title role.”
Meanwhile, the Arena di Verona announced that Francesco Meli will sing the role of Don Jose on August 14, replacing Beczała.
