Piero Pretti Replaces Vittorio Grigolo At The Metropolitan Opera
By Francisco SalazarAfter weeks maintaining the mysterious TBA in its cast list for its upcoming performances of “La Traviata,” the Metropolitan Opera has announced Vittorio Grigolo’s replacement.
And the man to take on the role will be Italian tenor Piero Pretti, who Met audiences are just getting to know.
Pretti made his Metropolitan Opera debut this season in a revival of “Madama Butterfly.” However, his career has already taken flight in Europe, where he has sung at such notable theaters as Teatro alla Scala, Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro La Fenice, Opernhaus Zurich, and Teatro Real de Madrid.
Grigolo was fired from the Metropolitan Opera a few weeks ago after the Royal Opera House ended its investigation finding that Grigiolo had behaved below the standards of the company.
Pretti joins a cast that includes Lisette Oropesa and Luca Salsi with Nicola Luisotti. Performances open on Feb. 26 and run through March 19, 2020.
