Philharmonia Orchestra Announces February 2026 Festival in Mauritius
By David SalazarThe Philharmonia Orchestra is set to return to Mauritius in February 2026 for the Philharmonia Festival.
In sum, the Festival will feature eight concerts, including three public performances, a schools concert, and a private sponsors’ event, as well as workshops, masterclasses, and a Virtual Reality (VR) ‘Virtual Orchestra’ experience.
French conductor Alexandre Bloch, first prize winner of the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition in 2012, leads the Festival, which will include performances by such vocal ensembles as the Island Voices Choir and the Conservatoire National de Musique François-Mitterrand Choir. These ensembles will appear in three concerts on Feb. 14 and 15, 2026 at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute.
“We are delighted to return to Mauritius in February with a larger orchestra for this next Philharmonia Festival in Mauritius,” Thorben Dittes, CEO of the Philharmonia Orchestra, said per an official press release. “Our first visit in 2024 paved the way for this ongoing relationship through musical friendships and local sponsorship and support. Our musicians are thrilled to be making the trip and to engage directly again with the local community and audiences not just through concerts, but also through our education work, which sees an additional week of activity across the island. Following the initial success in 2024, with queues around the block, we also bring back our Digital Virtual Reality (VR) experience, which enables anyone to feel the power of the music from a seat right at the heart of the orchestra as they perform symphonic masterworks, for free. I look forward to re-connecting with our friends from the last time, and to meet many new music lovers in Mauritius in 2026.”
The 2026 Festival is made possible by a lead donation from the Laurence Modiano Charitable Trust and the Principal Partnership of Mauritius Commercial Bank, supported by local companies, philanthropists, and public bodies.
