The Philharmonia Orchestra has launched a new arts management training program.
The company revealed that it will train across four departments, including concerts, marketing and communications, learning and engagement, and development. Trainees will complete four six-month rotations during which they will develop “core skills, confidence, and knowledge of arts maangements in different areas of orchestral operations.”
There will be one to one mentoring, on the job learning, and professional development and delivery of major aspects of the orchestra’s activities. There will also be professional development workshops that cover fundraising, budgeting, and communications, among other topics as well as networking opportunities.
“When starting out on a career in arts management, identifying the area best aligned with your skills and interests can be challenging. This scheme offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across four key areas of the orchestra’s operations, alongside bespoke guidance and mentoring. We are committed to making this opportunity accessible to all, and have therefore consciously moved away from traditional application processes to encourage greater inclusivity,” said Thorben Dittes, Philharmonia Orchestra CEO, per an official press release.
