American soprano Jacquelyn Stucker Drye has prepared and published a complete phonetic transcription and detailed translation of the libretto from Berg’s “Wozzeck” from German into English.

“A singer’s translation and phonetic transcription of ‘Wozzeck’ does not, as yet, exist in any format whatsoever, but this resource would enable any non-German-speaking singer the opportunity to assimilate this work in a fashion that is simply not possible now with the current available literature,” stated the description on publisher Pendragon Press’ website. “While there is a great deal of musicological and musico-theoretical literature about ‘Wozzeck’ available, there was – until now – neither a useful, practical translation of the opera’s libretto nor a phonetic transcription of any kind of the opera’s libretto.”

Stucker Drye is preparing the similar translation of another Berg’s opera “Lulu.”

Stucker Drye is the member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she has performed “Hänsel und Gretel” and “Jenůfa.” She has performed in such operas as “Semiramide” at the Bayerische Staatsoper, “Carmen” and “The Queen of Spades” at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

She has also appeared in “Rinaldo” at the Glyndebourne Festival.
