PBS To Showcase Met Opera’s ‘Semiramide’ Starring Angela Meade

By David Salazar

PBS will showcase “Semiramide” from the Metropolitan Opera as part of its Great Performances Series on Sunday, July 8, 2018.

The broadcast will kick off at 12 p.m. EDT and will soprano Angela Meade in the title role, tenor Javier Camarena, mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong, and bass Ildar Abdrazakov. Ryan Speedo Green rounds out the star cast.

Per OperaWire’s review, DeShong was the standout of the production. “ The true star of the night was Elizabeth DeShong as Arsace. From the first note to her last, she suited the vocal lines perfectly. The coloratura was pure and clean at all moments, and she seemed to be exploring its expressive qualities throughout,” stated the review.

This is the latest in a season-long series that will still showcase transmissions of the Met’s Live in HD season. PBS will still showcase such operas as “Luisa Miller,” “Così Fan Tutte,” and “Cendrillon.” The broadcasts will run throughout the summer in time for the Met’s new 2018-19 season, whereupon PBS will start broadcasting that season’s Live in HD transmissions.
