PBS has announced Christopher Farley, known for his diverse contributions in media as a writer, editor, and producer, as its new Senior Director, Arts Programming & Development. In this role, Farley will steer the development and execution of the multiplatform strategy aimed at arts, performance, culture, and lifestyle content.

Farley comes to PBS after having served as executive editor at Amazon Inc’s Audible, where he produced projects with talent such as Kerry Washington, Steph Curry, and Natasha Lyonne.

Other roles Farley has held are senior editor at The Wall Street Journal and a former music critic for Time magazine. He also served as consulting producer on the Peabody-winning HBO documentary “Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown” as well as for “Afrofuturism: A History of Black Futures” at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

“We are excited to welcome Christopher to PBS. His proven ability to bring important, powerful stories to life will complement PBS’s mission to create programming, particularly Arts, that reflects a range of audiences and lived experiences,” said Sylvia Bugg, Chief Programming Executive and General Manager, General Audience Programming at PBS in an official press statement. “With a long career in media as a writer, editor, and producer, Christopher is a valuable addition to our team.”

“PBS has a rich heritage of great arts and culture shows that for many years have helped audiences connect with different perspectives, learn about history and tradition, and celebrate human experiences,” Farley stated in a press release. “As PBS continues to bring stories to life in fresh ways, with innovative storytelling and new technology, now is an exciting time to be a part of public media, and I’m looking forward to helping to lead our programming into the future.”

Farley, a Harvard University graduate and former editor of the Harvard Lampoon, is also an award-winning author. His work includes the NAACP Image Award-winning novel “Around Harvard Square” and the national bestseller “Aaliyah: More Than a Woman,” later adapted into a Lifetime movie, among other notable achievements.
