Patricia Ortega to Director Montserrat Caballé Biopic

Patricia Ortega is set to direct a biopic on Montserrat Caballé.

“Caballé” will chronicle the different stages of the life of the famed soprano, who will be played by Begoña Alberdi and Ana Saavedra.

The film, which alternates between Caballé’s youth in a modest family and her peak in 1991, when she returned to perform in her native city as a celebrated opera icon, is written by Oriol Marcos, Olmo Figueredo Gonzalez-Quevedo, Carlos Rosado Sibón, and Kevin Iglesias and produced by Figueredo Gonzalez-Quevedo with executive production by Tiffany Ruoz and Sara Gómez.

Filming will take place in Bilbao’s Punta Zorroza studio complex, with additional locations in Barcelona, including the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Caballé is produced by La Claqueta PC, Set Màgic Audiovisual, Amania Films, and No Action Capital AIE, in co-production with La Charito, EFD, and Menuetto Film, with support from Peris Costumes. The film is also made with the participation of 3Cat and support from ICEC, ICAA, and Media Europa Creativa, and will be released in cinemas by Filmax.

Ortega is a Venezuelan film director known for such films as “Mamacruz,” “Being Impossible,” “La T invisible,” and “The Return.”
