Palau De Les Arts Reina Sofía Announces New Music Director

The Palau De Les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Spain has appointed James Gaffigan as its next Musical Director.

He will take up his new position starting during the 2021-22 season and will remain as music director for four more seasons. In his new post, Gaffigan is scheduled to direct two opera productions and two symphony programs during each season.

Additionally, he will be the Guest Conductor of the Trondheim Opera and Symphony Orchestra and will also serve as Musical Director of the Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra starting in July 2021.

“I hope to preserve the great Opera, explore a more diverse repertoire, great concerts in Valencia and its region. The institution has always had high standards. I am in awe of the amount of talent within the institution. It is an honor and a privilege, to take on the position of Music Director, “said Gaffigan in a press release.

“We are very happy that James Gaffigan has accepted our invitation to be the new Musical Director at Les Arts. He is a very important Orchestra Director and he will contribute to the development of the Valencian Community Orchestra,” Jesús Iglesias Noriega the Artistic Director of Les Arts, added.
