Palacio de Bellas Artes to Present Ginastera’s ‘Beatrix Cenci’

By David Salazar

The Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico is set to present Ginastera’s final opera “Beatrix Cenci” starting on Oct. 13, 2024.

The production, which runs through Oct. 20, will be directed by Marta Eguilior and conducted by Julia Cruz.

Per a press release, Eguilar’s take on the opera “speaks of wounds, family conflicts, and abuse. The staging depicts the ablation of the heart as a metaphor for the loss of the soul following Beatrix’s rape, while also aiming to repair the damage—much like the French artist did in several of her sculptures—through the presence of the needle, thread, and spool.”

“Beatrix Cenci” stars Hildelisa Hangis, Rosario Aguilar, Elba Flores, Rosa Muñoz, Belem Rodríguez, Guadalupe Aguirre, Juan Marcos Martínez, Jesús Estrada, and Alejandra Paz Lasso.
