Pacific Opera Project to Present ‘La Bohème’ AKA ‘The Hipsters’ AKA ‘La Brew-Hème’

By Nicolas Quiroga

Pacific Opera Project will present Puccini’s “La Bohème” at two breweries in Los Angeles this December.

First up, the company will showcase the classic work on December 12 at Benny Boy Brewing, followed by performances on December 13 and 14 at Angel Cervecería.

Puccini’s hit production, also known as “The Hipsters,” and now also known as “La Brew-hème,” will be sung in Italian, with English titles. It will be conducted by musical director Zach Neufeld and directed by Josh Shaw, artistic director of POP. Cast members include Arnold Livingston Geis, Janet Szepei Todd, Joel Balzun, Katherine Powers, E. Scott Levin, Keith Colclough, and Luvi Avendaño.

Pacific Opera Project was founded in 2011 and has consistently welcomed hundreds of new opera-goers each season, producing close to 50 operas in 11 seasons. In 2021, the organization established an engagement department and designed an in-school program for elementary students, resulting in the company’s current presence in fifteen Title I classrooms.
