Pacific Opera Project Opens with ‘Hansel and Gretel’
By Francisco SalazarPacific Opera Project is set to open its 2023-2024 season with an hour-long version of POP’s 2021 production Humperdinck’s “Hansel & Gretel.”
The opera, which is set to be presented between August 4 and 6 at Descanso Gardens will star mezzo-soprano Christine Li as Hansel and soprano Tiffany Ho as Gretel.
The cast will also include mezzo-soprano Jessica Mamey as The Witch, soprano Erin Theodorakis as the Mother, baritone Jared Jones as the father, and soprano Brooke Iva Lohmann as the Sandman/Dew Fairy. Jack Zager directs this production with Bryan Holman as Music Director.
Later in August, POP returns to The Ford Amphitheatre for a one-night-only performance of “The Barber of Seville” on August 25, 2023. In a modern-day, spin on Rossini’s beloved classic, the production stars mezzo-soprano Meagan Martin, baritone Jonathan McCullough, bass Andrew Potter, tenor Sergio Gonzalez, and bass-baritone E. Scott Levin. Kyle Naig conducts.
