Pacific Chorale to Present Monteverdi Masterpiece

By Nicolas Quiroga

The Pacific Chorale will present Monteverdi’s “Vespers of 1610” on March 4, 2023 at Our Lady Catholic Church.

The showcase will be led by Robert Istad with the Bach Collegium San Diego (BCSD) as special guests. Ruben Valenzuela will accompany on the organ.

Regarding Monteverdi’s “Vespers of 1610,” Istad said,  “it is an extraordinary work with impressive textures, exuberant choruses, virtuoso solos and soulful duets. This will be a rare opportunity to hear the complete work, since it is almost never performed in its entirety.”

“Vespers of 1610” is one of the first works cataloged as an opera. It is a sacred composition of the eve of the Blessed Virgin by Monteverdi.

Following this performance, the Pacific Chorale will present Haydn’s “Missa in Angustiis,” or “Nelson Mass”as well as Price’s “Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight.”
