Over 200,000 Canadians to Unite in Song for Music Monday 2026
By David SalazarThe Coalition for Music Education in Canada marked May 4, 2026 as Music Monday 2026.
As part of the celebrations, more than 200,000 students, educators, and artists participating in a nationwide synchronized sing-along from coast to coast. The cities of Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver each proclaimed May 4 as Music Monday, while Manitoba has designated the entire month of May as Music Month.
The centerpiece event took place at Hugh’s Room in Toronto, welcoming approximately 200 guests including 75 student performers. Featured artists include Marc Jordan and Chris Tait of Chalk Circle, both past composers of the Music Monday anthem, alongside Grammy Award-winning musician and educator Justin Gray, producer Michael A. Turner, and rising artist Billianne. Regional events include more than 600 students performing at Manitoba’s Legislative Assembly and a 200-voice finale in Mississauga at the Living Arts Centre.
“Music Monday is a powerful reminder of what happens when we come together through music and how it strengthens communities across the country. With official recognition from major cities and students participating alongside artists who have helped shape this program over the years, it speaks to the lasting impact of music education in Canada and why we need to put a stop to the cuts taking place across the country,” Stacey Sinclair, Executive Director of the Coalition for Music Education in Canada, said in a press release.
