The Osterfestpiele Salzburg has announced that it will postpone the 2021 Edition.

In a statement, the Austrian festival said, “After long, detailed deliberations, Christian Thielemann, the Artistic Director of the Festival and Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden and Intendant Nikolaus Bachler have decided to move the Festival from the Easter weekend to the weekend of All Saints 2021.”

As a result, the festival will now take place between Oct. 29 and Nov. 1, 2021.

The Festival will announce full program details in May 2021.

Austria is currently undergoing an ongoing COVID-19 epidemiological crisis, with SARS-CoV-2 B.1.351 variant battering the state of Tyrol. Austrian theaters, concert venues, and opera houses have been closed since early November 2020, with no clear signs of reopening anytime soon. The country logged 2,503 new COVID-19 cases on March 14, 2021.
