Orquesta de Córdoba Names New Music Director

Spain’s Orquesta de Córdoba has announced that Salvador Vázquez will be the next Music Director.

The news came from the Board of Directors and Vázquez will start his new position during the 2024-25 season. The contract will be for two years.

Vázquez will become the sixth Music Director of the 31-year orchestra.

In a statement, the conductor, “My relationship with the Orquesta de Córdoba has strengthened over the years, and I have witnessed its evolution and exceptional talent. Taking on the role of principal director is an honor that I accept with great responsibility and enthusiasm. I hope to contribute significantly to the artistic development of the orchestra and take our music to new heights.

Throughout his career, the Spanish conductor has led such orchestras as Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Orquesta Sinfónica de RTVE, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, Filarmonica National, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Orquesta de Extremadura, Orquesta de Córdoba, and Orquesta Ciudad de Granada. He was chief conductor of the Coro de Ópera de Málaga and artistic director of the Joven Orquesta Barroca de Amdalucía.
