ORF III is set to broadcast Wiener Staatsoper’s production of Verdi’s “Otello” on Nov. 19, 2023.

The production, which is directed by Adrian Noble, was performed back in October and starred Jonas Kaufmann in the title role alongside Rachel Willis-Sørensen as Desdemona and Ludivoc Tézier as Iago. Alexander Soddy conducted the production.

Critics raved about Kaufmann’s performance noting “he delivered Otello’s big monologues in Acts 2 and 3 with assured and nuanced mastery, with pleasing legato.”

This is the second production that ORF broadcasts this year starring Kaufmann. In January, he starred in “Aida” alongside Anna Netrebko and Elīna Garanča. The tenor continues in Vienna this month for a new production of “Turandot” with Asmik Grigorian.
