ORF III will offer the TV audience exclusive access to this top-class, completely sold-out production, which will only be shown four times starting Jan. 14. ORF III will also accompany the opera event with detailed reports and interviews.
In a statement, Peter Schöber, Program Manager ORF III said, “I am particularly pleased that the extremely close cooperation between ORF III and the Wiener Staatsoper marks the start of the rest of the program year 2023 with this outstanding opera production, in which we are also looking forward to the live broadcast of ‘Salome’ in mid-February be able. My thanks go to our partners at the Wiener Staatsoper, especially director Bogdan Roščić and his outstanding ensemble, above all Anna Netrebko, Elīna Garanča, and Jonas Kaufmann.”
General Director Bogdan Roscic added, “This Saturday Elīna Garanča and Anna Netrebko will be on the same stage for the first time since 2011, to my great delight together with Jonas Kaufmann. If artists like Luca Salsi or Alexander Vinogradov complete the cast, a constellation arises in which we cannot even begin to meet the demand for tickets. The ‘Aida’ performances have been completely sold out for ages, but we still receive countless disappointed inquiries every day. And that’s why, after the four fully booked evenings in the State Opera, we’re going to make a fifth performance possible, so to speak, free of charge and for everyone – at the end of January on ORF III, with this unforgettable cast and for a very large audience.”
“Aida” opens on Jan. 14 and will be performed four times through Jan. 24, 2023.
