Anna Netrebko & Yusif Eyvazov to Open Arena di Verona

By Francisco Salazar

Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov are set to open the 100th anniversary with a new production of Stefano Poda.

The opera will performed on June 16 and will be broadcast on Rai worldwide.

Poda will direct the production as well designing the costumes and sets. In a statement Poda said, “The story of Aida is that of a world at war, a war that divides two brotherly and neighboring peoples into mortal enemies. But the work itself ends in a whisper of peace: A Dantesque journey, from an infernal beginning to a celestial vision.”

Netrebko recently performed the role at the Teatro Real and is currently set to sing at the Wiener Staatsoper. She has also sung the role at the Metropolitan Opera and Arena where she faced controversy due to the use of blackface.

The 2023 season  is set to present eight operas, four galas and an extraordinary concert with the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro alla Scala.
