Opernhaus Zürich Announces Cast Change for ‘Il Pirata’

The Opernhaus Zürich has announced a cast change for Bellini’s “Il Pirata.”

The company noted that Javier Camarena has withdrawn from the role of Gualtiero from the concert performances and will be replaced by Andrew Owens.

Owens is an ensemble member of the Zürich Opera and was originally scheduled to perform Itulbo in the opera. This season he has performed the roles of Arturo in “Lucia di Lammermoor, Beppe in “I Pagliacci,” and Telémachos in Evers’ “Die Odyssee,” among other roles. He has also performed with the Rossini Opera Festival, Jacksonville Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Theater an der Wien, and the Arizona Music Festival.

The American tenor joins a cast that includes Konstantin Shushakov, Irina Lungu, Thomas Erlank, Stanislav Vorobyov, and Freya Apffelstaedt. Iván López-Reynoso conducts the performances scheduled for June 1, 6, and 10, 2022.
