OperaVision to Stream Eötvös’ ‘Valuska’

By David Salazar

OperaVision is set to stream the Hungarian State Opera’s production of Péter Eötvös’ “Valuska” starting on Jan. 19, 2024.

The opera premiered at Eiffel Art Studios in December of 2023 and starred Zsolt Haja in the title role alongside Adrienn Miksch (Mrs Pflaum), Tünde Szabóki (Tünde), and András Hábetler (Professor). Kálmán Szennai conducted the production by director Bence Varga.

“Valuska” was based on the novel “The Melancholy of Resistance” by Lázló Kraznahorkai and explores the life of a traveling circus that arrives at a small town. Then a murder drags the innocent János Valuska into its orbit.

“Valuska, this pure young man falls victim to a manipulative society in the shadow of a stuffed whale,” the composer said per an official press release.

The recording will be available to stream for six months.
