Opera Theatre of Saint Louis Under Contract for New Performing Arts Center
By Afton MarkayOpera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL) announced that it is under contract for the purchase of a 6.67-acre parcel of land upon which it plans to build a new, state-of-the-art performing arts center.
The company has started a due diligence process for the site, located at 8300 Maryland Avenue. However, a number of steps remain before OTSL will be able to confirm and close a transaction. The organization is currently in the early stages of assessing the feasibility of the project that will include but is not limited to site studies, design work, cost estimates, and early fundraising. OTSL will also work with the City of Clayton to review and approve the designs of a new performing arts center.
“As we celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, we are excited by an unprecedented opportunity to build a new home,” said OTSL’s General Director Andrew Jorgensen in a press release. “We are still early in this process, but we look forward to being in dialogue with our Opera Theatre community, Clayton residents and businesses, and other stakeholders as we pursue necessary redevelopment steps over the next several months.”
In May 2025, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis opens its season with Strauss II’s “Die Fledermaus,” followed by the world premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon, Lynn Nottage, and Ruby Aiyo Gerber’s “This House.”
