Opera San José to Participate in ‘South First Friday’ This February

Opera San José is set to participate in the SoFA District’s evening art walk “South First Friday” on Feb. 2, 2024.

As part of the celebration of arts and culture in the city, the opera company will showcase a sneak peak of its upcoming “Rigoletto” at the California Theatre.

At 6 p.m., audiences will get a chance to experience performances by soprano Alexandra Halchak, tenor WooYoung Yoon, and baritone Robert Balonek. They are joined by pianist Veronika Agranov-Dafoe.

The at 7 p.m., the company will engage in a celebration of its 40th anniversary with balloon artist Hey Balloon Lady!

Then at 7:15, organist Jerry Nagano gets his turn at the California Theatre.

And then the company invites participants to join in party games such as “Pin the Crown” on company founder Irene Dalis, among others.

“All season, we have been celebrating 40 years of producing world-class operatic performances and are inviting South First Friday art walkers to join the party,” said Opera San José General Director/CEO Shawna Lucey. “We welcome everyone to bring the kids, a date, or come alone and enjoy an old-fashioned birthday party to help us mark our fourth decade here in downtown San Jose.”

Opera San José’s “Rigoletto” opens on Feb. 17 and runs through March 3, 2024 at the California Theatre.
