
Opera San José Announces Workshop for ‘Solaris’
By David SalazarOpera San José has announced that it will showcase a workshop of a new opera by composer Stefan Cwik and librettist Anthony Asaro.
The workshop is set for Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Heiman Rehearsal Hall.
The opera in question, “Solaris,” is based on the famed science fiction novel by Stanislaw Lem that was the basis for Andrei Tarkovsky and Steven Soderbergh’s films. The opera tells the story of Dr. Kris kelvin who arrives on a space station orbiting the planet of Solaris, only to find his crew in psychological turmoil. Past Trauma is relived and existential threats are faced as the opera unfolds.
“Solaris” was commissioned to honor Joseph Marcheso’s decade of leadership and musical excellence with the company.
