Opera San Jose Announces Cast Change for ‘Florencia en el Amazonas’

Opera San Jose has announced a cast change for its production of Daniel Catan’s “Florencia en el Amazonas.”

The company said that Elizabeth Caballero will replace the originally scheduled Marlen Nahhas.

In a statement, Caballero also added, “Happy to announce that I will be returning to a magical river cruise down the Amazon April 20-May 5 when I will be singing the title role in ‘Florencia en el Amazonas ‘ at Opera San Jose. Performances take place at teh California Theatre. Happy to be making the Bay Area premiere of this beautiful opera.”

She is set to join a cast that includes soprano Melissa Sondhi as Rosalba, and mezzo-soprano Guadalupe Paz as Paula. It will also include baritone Efraín Solís as Alvaro, tenor César Delgado as Arcadio, baritone Ricardo José Rivera as Riolobo, and bass-baritone Vartan Gabrielian as the Captain. Opera San José Director of Music Joseph Marcheso will conduct the production by Crystal Manich.
