Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège Cancels ‘Il Turco in Italia’ & ‘Ursule et Hirsute’

Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège has announced the cancelation of its production of Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia,” which was scheduled for performance between Jan. 29 and Feb. 6 2021.

The showcase was canceled due to COVID-19 measures imposed by the government of Belgium.

The opera was set to star Guido Loconsolo as Selim, Nino Machaidze in the role of Fiorilla, Bruno de Simone as Don Geronio, Diego Godoy in the role of Don Narciso, Pierre Doyen as Prosdocimo, Angélique Noldus as Zaida, and Alexander Marev in the role of Albazar.

Giuseppe Finzi was signed on to conduct the production by Fabrice Murgia.

Additionally, a production of Lionel Polis’ “Ursule et Hirsute,” which was scheduled between Jan. 28 – Feb. 5, 2021, was also canceled. The opera was supposed to showcase Louise Foor, Geoffrey Degives, Marie-Catherine Baclin, and Patrick Delcour. Ayrton Desimpelaere was set to conduct the production by Vincent Dujardin.

Per the press release, both productions will be postponed until future seasons.
