Opera Rara Announces Cast Change for ‘Simon Boccanegra’

Opera Rara has announced a cast change for its concert performance of “Simon Boccanegra.”

The company said, “We’re sorry to not be able to work with Nicola Alaimo again this year as he’s had to withdraw from ‘Simon Boccanegra’ due to illness. We wish Nicola a very speedy recovery! We’re happy to announce that our Simon will now be Germán Enrique Alcántara. See you next week Germán.”

The Argentinean baritone is a graduate of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme of Royal Opera House London, where he had his company debut in the 2018-19 Season as Dancaïre in “Carmen.”He won the audience Prize at the Tenor Viñas Competition in Barcelona and First Prize in the Concours Lyrique International ad Alta Voce in Paris.

He joins a cast that includes Eri Nakamura, Iván Ayón-Rivas, and William Thomas. Sir Mark Elder conducts. “Simon Boccanegra” will be performed on April 18, 2024.
