Opera Philadelphia Announces Another Cast Change for ‘Simon Boccanegra’

By Francisco Salazar

Opera Philadelphia has announced a new cast change for its production of “Simon Boccanegra” on Oct. 1, 2023.

The company said, “Last night, Jennifer Rowley made her Opera Philadelphia debut, jumping into the role of Maria/Amelia last-minute and charming Friday night’s audience. You have another chance to see her at Sunday’s 2:00 p.m. matinee.

Rowley also added, “With a little bit more notice this time, I am thrilled to join everyone in Philadelphia at Opera Philadelphia again tomorrow afternoon for the final matinee performance of Simon Boccanegra at the Academy of Music! Last night’s performance was an incredible jump-in experience, and one I won’t soon forget! I can’t wait to make music again with maestro Corrado Rovaris, Quinn Kelsey,  Richard Trey Smagur, Christian Van Horn, and the rest of this brilliant cast tomorrow! Thank you Philadelphia for your warm welcome!”

Rowley took over the performance on Sept. 29 after Ana María Martínez pulled out.

The Oct. 1 show will mark the final performance of the production.
