Opera Philadelphia has announced a cast change for its production of “Simon Boccanegra.”

The company noted that Jennifer Rowley will replace Ana María Martínez for the performance on Sept. 29, 2023.

In a statement via social media Rowley added, “This doesn’t happen all that often in the USA, but when that call comes, you can be sure you are in for the same wild “einspringen” ride! This evening on one days notice, I will be reprising one of my favorite Verdi roles, Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra at Opera Philadelphia! I am elated to be making my debut with Opera Philadelphia, joining an incredible cast including the wonderful Quinn Kelsey, Christina Van Horn, and Richard Trey Smagur, and conducted by the brilliant Corrado Rovaris!”

She concluded “Because one day of rehearsal is TOTALLY enough for this very difficult opera, and after having last sing Amelia at Oper Zurich in 2021, this should be a very fun ride! Please join us in Philadelphia at the Academy of Music this evening, and cheer on this world-class cast of Verdians!”

Martínez returns for the final performance on Oct. 1, 2023.
