By David Salazar

Opera Parallèle will be developing a new opera at 836M.

The opera company will be artists-in-residence with 836M, a nonprofits arts organization with gallery space in San Francisco, and will work on “Hello, Star,” a new work by composer Carla Lucero with a libretto by Jarrod Lee. It is based on the book by Stephanie V.W. Lucianovic that explores the story of a young girl who is captivated by the call of a dying star.

The opera will be produced as part of Opera Parallèle’s “Hands-On-Opera” community engagement program. The completed work will get three performances at the Children’s Creativity Museum at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26, 2025. There will also be a Creators Conversation and Launch Reception on Sept. 25, as well as open rehearsals and other events in the lead up to the performances. Nicole Paiement, Founder and Artistic Director of Opera Parallèle, will conduct. L. Peter Callender will stage the work.

“We are thrilled to welcome Opera Parallèle to 836M as artists in residence during the creation of Hello, Star, the first opera production supported by 836M,” said 836M Programming Director Céline Ricci per an official press release. “This collaboration exemplifies our mission to champion innovative, inspiring and boundary-pushing works that resonate with contemporary audiences.”
