Opera on Tap Colorado to Present ‘Atlas of Remote Islands’

By David Salazar

Opera on Tap Colorado will present the opera “Atlas of Remote Islands,” a contemporary work by composer Nathan Hall about a young man exploring distant worlds through the pages of an atlas, at MCA Denver at the Holiday Theater 2644 West 32nd Avenue Denver, CO 80211 United States.

The “Atlas of Remote Islands” is a 2009 book by Judith Schalansky on which Nathan Hall based the opera, and Alan Olejniczak wrote the libretto. It is essentially an atlas of fifty real and remote islands, written in prose, more for the imagination than for navigation, and it raises more questions than it answers.

Hall was a Fulbright Scholar in Iceland, is a McKnight Visiting Composer, and has a Ph.D. in Musical Arts from CU Boulder. His works have been performed in 13 countries and 21 US states.

Opera on Top Colorado maintains a diversified performance schedule, with a monthly theme show that helps promote new, young performers by introducing new works of classical music.
