Opera on Tap Announces Major Grant from Infosys Foundation USA

By David Salazar

Opera on Tap (OOT) has announced that it has received a major grant from Infosys Foundation USA.

The grant will be used to fund an addition to the Playground Opera program, “Opera Maker Lab,” a space that allows the organization’s education team to work with Makers and STEM-based educators to help introduce students to STEM/STEAM through operatic means.

Per an official statement on the company’s website, the program will officially launch in January 2024 and will see Opera on Tap join forces with  Makey Makey/Joylabz (JL), and Professor Adam Maltese and the MILL Makerspace + Uplands Maker Mobile of Indiana University’s (IU) School of Education.

Through the program, students will get the opportunity to create music and even invent their own instruments by using JL team’s Makey Makey Music Education Activity Kits. There will also be a hands-on summer camp for “opera-maker” learning. This will in turn serve rural communities surrounding the University of Indiana.
