Opéra National du Rhin Names New Assistant Conductor
By Francisco SalazarMatthew Straw has been appointed Assistant Conductor at Opéra National du Rhin.
In his new position, the conductor will assist with several productions, including “Ariodante” and “La Traviata.” He will also conduct performances of “The Tales of Hoffmann” in February and March 2025.
Straw is currently Assistant Conductor of the Utah Symphony and has assisted Kazushi Ono at the Brussels Philharmonic and Ilan Volkov with ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. He was selected for the prestigious Järvi Academy at the age of 20 and was the youngest ever recipient of a Solti Foundation Career Assistance Award in 2022, awarded again in 2023 and 2024.
Straw has also conducted the Rochester Philharmonic, New World Symphony, Des Moines Metro Opera, and Cabrillo Festival.
