Opéra National de Paris to Invest 7.2 Million Euros in Restoration of Palais Garnier

By David Salazar

The Opéra National de Paris has announced it will invest 7.2 million euros in fixing the Palais Garnier’s façade.

Per an official press statement issued by the company, the need for renovations are the result of pollution and other climate-related wear and tear to the materials and structure of the façade. The project will be undertaken by Oppic (l’Opérateur du patrimoine et des projets immobiliers de la Culture) under the leadership of Pascal Prunet, Chief Architect of historical monuments.

The project will feature cleaning, depollution, replacing degraded elements, restoration of sculptures, and installing an anti-pigeon system, among many others.

The work will begin in April 2024 and finish in late 2024. The Palais Garnier will remain open throughout the renovation process.

The Palais Garnier was built in 1875 and was classified as a historic monument in 1923.
