Opéra National de Bordeaux Announces Emmanuel Hondré as Next General Director

By David Salazar

The Opéra National de Bordeaux has announced the appointment of Emmanuel Hondré as its next General Director.

Hondré is a graduate of the Conservatoire National Superier de Musique et de Dance de Paris and has a doctorate in Musicology and has also been the Director of Concerts and Spectacles at the Philarmonie de Paris since 2014.

Per a press statement on the company’s official website, Hondré intends for the Opéra National de Bordeaux to be a “opera citizen” that aims to engage with its younger audiences with repertory that is “ambitious and resolutely anchored in its territory.”

He would replace Marc Minkowski, whose term is set to come to a close in 2022.

Minkowski’s departure was announced earlier this year with reports that members of the orchestra were unsatisfied with his extended absences. The company did note that it intended to collaborate with him on future projects.
