
Opera Modesto Announces 2026-27 Season
By David SalazarOpera Modesto has announced its 2026-27 season, featuring a mix of operatic classics, a nationally recognized education initiative, and community programming.
The season opens with Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” at the Gallo Center for the Arts.
Performance Dates: Sept. 11 & 13, 2026
Rachel Portman’s “The Little Prince” is presented as part of the company’s “Story-Into-Song Literacy” Initiative, a program that brings literature to life through fully staged opera performances aligned with multi-disciplinary school curricula. Following its run at the State Theatre, the production will tour community theaters throughout the Central Valley in January and February.
Performance Dates: Jan. 16 & 17, 2027
The season concludes with Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Gallo Center for the Arts.

Beyond its mainstage productions, Opera Modesto will present its 8th annual Summer Opera Institute in July 2026, a two-week intensive training program for youth artists in grades 8–12 from across the Central Valley. The program concludes with a free public performance at CSU Stanislaus on July 24.
The company’s annual Around the World Concert returns in December, celebrating the diverse cultural heritages of Central Valley residents through traditional music and folk performances spanning as many as 15 languages and styles.
