Opera Mississippi Unveils 2025-26 Season

Opera Mississippi has announced its 2025-26 season, marking its 80th anniversary. The theme of the new season will be “An American Tapestry: A Season of Sound and Spirit.”

The season opens with “American Canvas: An Evening of Art Songs” featuring tenor John Christopher Adams and pianist Tyler Kemp. The evening will also feature the formal introduction of the company’s new Executive Director.

Performance Date: Sept. 4, 2025


Next up is “An Evening with The Pink Panther: The Music of Henry Mancini.” John Christopher Adams and Maryann Kyle are joined by the Sam Bruton Jazz Ensemble.

Performance Date: Oct. 27, 2025


For the holidays, audiences will be treated to “The Christmas Gift, an opera by Dr. James Sclater. The work follows the story of two brothers and their journey toward selfless love and the spirit of giving.

Performance Dates: Dec. 12 & 13, 2025


Then comes the John Alexander National Vocal Competition.

Performance Date: Feb. 1, 2026


“Songs for a New World” will be the following showcase.

Performance Date: April 24 & 25, 2026


Closing out the season is “Faith and Freedom: A Juneteenth Gospel Celebration.”

Performance Date: June 14, 2026
