Opera Maine is set to present “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” this July.

The work will star Michael Mayes in the title role alongside Mela Dailey as Mrs. Lovett. Joining them are David Pittsinger as Judge Turpin, Megan Marino as Lucy Barker, and Michael Adams as Anthony. Mary Feminear will be Joanna. Other cast members include Nicholas Nestorak as Beadle Bamford and David Marino as Tobias. Finally, as Pirelli, audiences will experience the talents of Maxwell Levy.

Israel Gursky conducts the Opera Maine Orchestra.

“’Sweeney Todd is a masterpiece that blends hauntingly beautiful music with a gripping narrative,” said Dona D. Vaughn, Artistic Director of Opera Maine, per an official press release. “Our production will draw audiences into the darkly comedic world that Sondheim so brilliantly created.”

The production opens on July 24 with a second showcase on July 27. There will be a pre-curtain presentation by the company’s dramaturg Calien Lewis one hour before each performance.
