Opera Maine to Present ‘Rocking Horse Winner’

Opera Maine will open its 29th season with “Rocking Horse Winner” by Gareth Williams and Anna Chatterton.

Led by Richard Gammon and Jackson McKinnon, the esteemed singers of the celebrated Studio Artist Program will perform at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center on July 5 and 7, 2023.

“Rocking Horse Winner” delves into the complex relationship between an emotionally distant mother and Paul, an autistic man. Exploring themes of love, luck, and greed, this adult-recommended opera is sung in English and has a runtime of 60 minutes.”Rocking Horse Winner” is a modern adaptation of D. H. Lawrence’s short story, featuring music by Gareth Williams and a libretto by Anna Chatterton.

The cast includes Dylon Crain, Lauren Cook, Houston Tyrrell, and Marcel Sokalski. “The House” is portrayed by a quartet consisting of Jamila Drecker-Waxman, Emily Cottam, Taka Komagata, and Daniel Chiu.

The company will also present “La Cenerentola” on July 27 and 30, 2023.
