Opera Lafayette to Present ‘The Era of Madame de Maintenon’ to Close out 2023-24 Season

Opera Lafayette will close out its 2023-24 season with “The Era of Madame de Maintenon.”

The showcase, scheduled for May 3 – 9, 2024 in New York and Washington D.C., will explore the life and times of the last mistress and secret wife of Louis XIV. First up will be “Les Fêtes de Thalie” in Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center on May 3 and 4. Then the production heads to New York’s El Museo del Barrio for a showcase on May 7 followed by a reprise of “Esther” on May 9 at St. Peter’s Church.

Conductor Christophe Rousset leads a production directed by Catherine Turocy. The cast includes Jonathan Woody, Angel Azzarra, Pascale Beaudin, Scott Brunscheen, Jean-Bernard Cerin, Patrick Kilbride, Margot Rood, John Taylor Ward, and Ariana Wehr.

The company also revealed that it will present its annual New York Gala as part of the New York Festival. That black-tie event is set for May 7 at the Museum of the City of New York.
