Opera Index will honor Sir Bryn Terfel at its 41st Winter Gala at the Metropolitan Club in New York City.
The event, set for Jan. 19, 2025 at 6 p.m. will feature a concert featuring the 2024 Opera Index International Competition winners, followed by dinner and an awards presentation.
Terfel is one of opera’s most renowned artists and he is currently performing what could be his final Metropolitan Opera performances as Scarpia in “Tosca.” Of his interpretation, OperaWire’s Francisco Salazar wrote that “From the moment he walked on stage, the bass-baritone was received with a rousing ovation,” and at moments, “the sound traveled through the Met auditorium with such ease…”
Terfel will be honored with Opera Index’s Distinguished Achievement Award for “his work in opera and his dedication to younger generations of singers through master classes and his new foundation at the Royal Welsh College of Music.”
