This week only two major releases this week of notable operas from the standard repertory.

Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci

In time for Valentine’s Day, OEHMS is set to release a new recording of the famous double featuring the operas of Mascagni and Leoncavallo.

The recording from Oper Graz stars Ezgi Kutlu as Santuzza, Aldo di Toro as Turiddu, Cheryl Studer as Lucia, Audun Iversen as Alfio, and Mareike Jankowski as Lola in the Mascagni work. Aurelia Florian, Di Toro, Iversen, and Martin Fournier star in Leoncavallo’s masterpiece.

Oksana Lyniv conducts the recording, which also includes the Grazer Philharmoniker.

The album will first be released on digital platforms follows by a CD release.

From the House of the Dead

BelAir will release a video recording of Janacek’s “From the House of the Dead” from the Bayerische Staatsoper. The production stars Bo Skovhus, Evgeniya Sotnikova, Charles Workman, Ales Briscein, and Peter Rose. Simon Young conducts.
