
Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras to Tour Bach’s ‘St. Matthew Passion’
By David SalazarThe Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras (MCO) will mark the 300th anniversary of Bach’s “St Matthew Passion” with a series of performances worldwide.
First off, the ensemble will present the work in London concert on Feb. 9, 2027 before taking it on tour across the U.S. from Feb. 13 to Feb. 23, 2027.
Masaaki Suzuki will conduct the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists. The soloists are tenor Nick Pritchard as the Evangelist, bass baritone Florian Störtz as Christus, sopranos Carolyn Sampson and Jone Martínez, countertenors Alexander Chance and Matthias Dähling, tenor Hugo Hymas, and bass baritone Timothy Edlin.
The London performance will take place at St Martin in the Fields on Feb. 9. The U.S. tour opens at the University of Georgia Performing Arts Center on Feb. 13, followed by Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana, on Feb. 14, and Pennsylvania State University Center for the Arts on Feb. 16. The ensembles will then perform at McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton on Feb. 17, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City on Feb. 18, Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor on Feb. 20, and Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley on Feb. 21, before closing at Carnegie Hall on Feb. 23.
“There is something electrifying about making music with an ensemble whose DNA is so closely entwined with Bach’s. The Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists have helped to shape the world’s understanding of this music for decades,” Suzuki said, per an official press release.
