‘Opera Gems: The Art of Dramatic Voices’ Concert Heads to Carnegie Hall

Grandi Voci Concerts, Matthew Laifer Artists Management, Jason Tramm, and the MidAtlantic Philharmonic Orchestra will team up to present “Opera Gems: The Art of Dramatic Voices” on Feb. 22, 2020 at Merkin Hall in New York City.

The concert will feature a wide range of international artists including soprano Alla Perchikova, mezzo-soprano Natasha Novitskaia, bass Kevin Short, tenor Dongwon Shin, and violinist Hyojin Kim. Sopranos Joanna Parisis and Maria Brea, winner of the Viñas Competition in 2020, will also appear as guest singers. The soloists will take on music by Bizet, Verdi, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, Sarasate, Ponchielli, Gounod, Saint-Saëns, Charpentier, and Offenbach.

Perchikova has performed at the Mariinsky Theater under the baton of Valery Gergiev and has also appeared at the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Helicon Opera in Moscow, and many opera houses across Germany.

Novitskaia has performed recently in Carnegie Hall and at the Taormina Teatro Greco, and has upcoming engagements with the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera as well as two performances of Beethoven 9th in David Geffen Hall. She will also appear at the Cesky Krumlov International Music Festival.

Shin has taken dramatic operatic repertory at such theaters as the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, San Francisco, Wiener Staatsoper, Houston Grand Opera, Dresden, and Opera Australia. In 2017, he was a special guest at the Giuseppe Giacomini Opera Gala at Carnegie Hall.

Short has enjoyed a notable international career appearing with such companies as the the Houston Grand Opera, the Los Angeles Opera, Theatre, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Santa Fe Opera, the Sarasota Opera, the Seattle Opera, the Washington National Opera, and the Zurich Opera, among others. He recently appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in the title role of “Porgy and Bess.”

Kim performed  at the Smetana Hall in Prague and recently with the Dacapo Kammer Philharmonie at Herkulessaal in Munich.

Tramm, who will conduct the concert, is the music director of the NJ Association of Verismo Opera and a guest conductor for the Long Island Concert Opera. His engagements for the 2019-20 season also include appearance with Hungary’s Savaria Orchestra at the KuturRadiohaus (Vienna) and the Czech Republic’s Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra at Smetana Hall (Prague).
